Closeup of
Thach Ba Shoreline
This drawing is from photography of 14 May 1985. The area in the red circle is the location of the buildings
visited by Smith and Garwood in July 1993. The shaded areas are low trees and
vegetation. None of this vegetation and trees were dense enough to hide buildings of
the size described by Garwood and visited by Smith and Garwood in 1993. In May 1985,
buildings are also present though in a configuration considerably different from those
visited by Smith and Garwood in 1993. In reviewing this and other photography, it
was clear that these buildings likely were temporary shelters put there to support
agricultural work, possibly land clearing, that was evident throughout the area.
Remember, the question is: Were these buildings present in 1977 when Garwood
claims to have seen US POWs here?
